[Katsuki pauses, hitting send a little early because he just caught sight of the date on his Oracle. Oh shit. Between everything that happened with the Green Knight, getting repairs under way at the clinic, and then the new brand of bullshit with the arcade's mess...Katsuki totally didn't realize the nerd's birthday not only was coming up, but it was HERE. NOW. And he didn't plan anything, cook anything, or even get the guy a gift.
Normally, this wouldn't be an issue, but...Katsuki's trying to do right by Izuku now, make up for everything he's done up until now. The least he can do is celebrate the dork's birthday, and get him something nice. Thinking fast, he shoots off a text and whirls around mid-step on his patrol. He has to haul ass, and has multiple stops to go to before the end of day.]
Nevermind what I said. I'm going to be late coming home. I have a lot of shit to do.

[Katsuki's typing is erratic, and some of what he responds with is typed incorrectly, or spelled wrong - like he's distracted or texting with one hand (because he is) - but he gets out something. After that though, Deku will be left on read for the entire day.

[He is very busy getting a birthday gift made and paid for in the literal last minute, and it's not until LATE at night (well, late for Katsuki, considering he goes to bed so early), that the blond comes back home, looking mildly harassed, extremely tired, and a little sweaty. While his friends are probably still awake - it's only maybe ten at night or so - Katsuki is still quiet as he enters the cottage and removes his shoes, leaving them in the designated space with all the others and slips into his house shoes.
Wordlessly, he makes a beeline for Izuku's room and sets down an innocuous looking brown paper bag, stuffed full with tissue paper. He knocks twice, a demanding thunk of his fist on the wood, then wanders off immediately after. He is too tired to deal with Izuku opening the gift he had rush-made, and he needs a bath, food, and then sleep. Disgusted by the idea, but too desperate to fill his stomach with something, Katsuki actually does eat both cupcakes left for him before locking himself in the bathroom to have his bath.
Inside the bag, beyond the mess of tissue paper stuffed inside it to not only pad the gift, but to hide it as well, are a pair of wooden bookends, with an etched image of All Might flexing burned into the smooth wood almost like a brand. It's obvious these are custom made, the name of the maker also branded into the bottom of each one, and while not super extravagant or anything...it's clear there was attention to detail and a lot of thought put into it. Katsuki used his All Might figure to give the maker a point of reference, and because it was a rush job, it...cost a lot of shards, but. Fuck it, he can't mess up this shit anymore. He can't ignore another one of the nerd's birthdays anymore, or pretend he just does not exist beyond being a target for Katsuki's ire and stupid insecurities.
He deserves better than what the blond had been giving him until now. He deserves this.
So happy birthday, Izuku, you shitty bastard. You better not wake him up, or regret doing this by being a weepy mess tonight and tomorrow morning.]
[ Bakugo will get a piece of paper pushed under his door of his bedroom while he's in the bath.
Of course Izuku gets teary eyed about it but he keeps that to himself. All the paper says is:
Thank you Kacchan!!! Come borrow one of my All Might books anytime you'd like!
Because that's where the bookends will be, holding all the manga and non fiction books and DVD sets and whatever else that's similarly rectangular shaped he has in between them, along with his probably 14 by now Hero Notes for the Future notebooks in there too, his All Might scarf draped on display on the wall above them until it gets cold again. ]
